Conference Title S3 – Launching In House Systems to Manage Awards and Work/Study
Moderator/Presenter Presenter: Kam Holland, Manager, Scholarships and Awards, York University
Abstract

With the need to process applications and programs more efficiently and effectively for students, this session will begin with highlighting the integrated in-house systems created at York University that manage their awards selection, SAG, BRS recording and Work/Study program online. The systems that will be discussed are:

  • Work/Study Employment Module (WSE) - online hiring system for the York community that shows the eligibility of a student, if they have been hired, a downloadable summary of approved positions, and a call for hours submission section for the end of year transfer.
  • Awards Management System (AWM) - online management system for our endowed, annual, and operational awards, scholarships and bursaries. Also manages and codes awards for BRS recording.
  • Student Financial Profile (SFP) - a multipurpose online application for awards, bursaries, scholarships and campus employment. This one application is a student's direct portal into everything financial at York University.

The session will then turn into a round-table discussion on what other institutions are doing to manage their workload. We will discuss the pros and cons of external products and in-house systems.
