| Abstract | The purposeful, work-related conversations we have with colleagues, reports, and supervisors need to achieve a goal and at the same time strengthen the relationship. Exploring a pragmatic model of conversation management uncovers the importance of creating and maintaining a supportive conversational climate while still attending to the conversational objective. In this interactive session we explore conversational timing, supportive versus defensive climates, and achieving conversational goals.
