Ontario's broader public sector access and privacy legislation, the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) has applied to the Province's universities for over four years. While universities had long handled personal information in a responsible, privacy protective manner before FIPPA, the legislation has brought refinements and requirements which bear detailed examination and discussion. This session will give an updated perspective on the handling of personal information consistent with FIPPA privacy requirements and expectations. The focus is expected to be information sharing both within and outside your institution, but we will also consider collection, use, disclosure, retention and destruction of personal information and touch briefly on access request and disclosure issues, including professional record keeping.
