| Abstract | Recognizing the power of perception and capitalizing on the perceptual tendencies of others is the first step to building memorable professional relationships. Go beyond the basics of meeting and greeting and learn the skills of authentic communication by knowing how to tap into one’s autobiographical urge. Asking the right questions at the right time builds your emotional foundation with existing, or prospective, clients. Let the “small world” phenomenon take hold of the conversation and experience social/business interactions that are both enjoyable and mutually profitable. Appreciate the difference between content and relational level communication and become unforgettable to prospective clients because of your emotional connection, not just your professional expertise. Be comfortable transitioning social conversations to professional conversations to make sure attending events is always professionally worthwhile. Learn to galvanize to action your contacts by asking for referrals and introductions. This session is about going beyond the basics towards an increased effectiveness when professionally networking. |
