| Conference Title | Plenary I: Work-Life Balance – What It Is And How To Get It |
| Moderator/Presenter | Presenter: Bob Harris Moderator: Nancy Weiner, OURA President |
| Abstract | Research is clear. Work-life conflict is on the rise. A 2003 Canadian study of 31,000 Canadians indicates that over 60% of today’s work force are experiencing moderate to high work-life conflict (up from 38% in 1991). Bob Harris highlights the key reasons for work-life conflict and what needs to be done to achieve work-life harmony. Bob makes recommendations from 3 perspectives: (i) what the organization needs to do (ii) what the individual needs to do and (iii) what others (colleagues, supervisors, etc) need to do. The Conference Board of Canada has identified work-life balance as a key requirement for becoming an “employer of choice”. Bob’s presentation highlights “balance” as a route to competitive advantage. |
